Here are a few rules about enrolling into Medicare and Medicare supplemental plans (Medigap). These rules are defined by the Dept of Health and Human Services through the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

A person must be eligible for Medicare benefits under Part A and enrolled in Part B before enrolling in a Medicare plan. An individual is eligible to enroll in a Part D prescription drug plan if the individual is entitled to Medicare benefits under Part A and/or enrolled in Part B.
